I dont follow your thinking. If people in your area are hurting for food. You have the gear, the expertise, and the knowledge to catch a bunch of fish. Why not keep catching the fish and feed the people? Its cod, there is a lot of cod. Maybe you drive around and find something else. try for ruby 4-5hrs before the sun come up. i was fishing for rubies commercially up north west, an area im sure your familiar with. an indicator that the rubies have gone off the chew is that red emps will come through and pick up the scraps. not that that is a bad bycatch but it is an indicator that the rubies have gone off the bite. all the best. love your work.

If the by-catch is a useable, sustainable fish and its not going to waste then I don't see any problem with it. If you're not using the fish and the fish can't be released, then I have major problems with it.
